About Don: Don Callahan is a qualified psychologist and celebrant in private practice in Melbourne. Born and educated in Ballarat at St Patrick's College, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in psychology and political science from the University of Melbourne. After completing a Graduate Diploma in Counselling from RMIT, he became a member of the Australian Psychological Society, registered to practise in Victoria as an organizational psychologist. He has run his own successful independent practice for 16 years.
As the eldest of nine children, Don became interested in civil celebrancy after writing and delivering, on behalf of his siblings, the eulogies for his parents' funerals. See www.apersonalhistory.com for Jack and Kathleen Callahan’s eulogies.
This profound personal experience led him to further study to become a professionally qualified celebrant through the Australian and International College of Celebrancy. Don is qualified to design and conduct funerals, weddings, name givings and other rites of passage.
On the personal side, Don has lived in Ivanhoe for 34 years, is married to Sally and has five sons aged from 14 to 30. He is active in his local community as a volunteer: school council, announcer on radio 3RPH, board member Road Trauma Team) and lists food and wine, reading, golf, jazz and classic cars among his interests.
His professional interests include the transition from childhood to adolesence. Ultimately he believes that professionally created and conducted rites of passage enrich and strengthen us as individuals, as families and as communities.
How Don approaches a marriage:
How do I organise a wedding for you? Initially I invite you to a brief no-obligation meeting so you can "look me over". I invite you see other celebrants so you have a basis for comparison. On confirmation, I send you an information kit , a ceremony template and a loan copy of the book "Ceremonies and Celebrations". My approach is to empower you so that you "own" the design and text of the ceremony.
How many interviews usually take place? Usually two!
I always recommend an on-site rehearsal.
Testimonials? I will show you hard copy testimonials at our no-obligation meeting (Or see www.doncallahan.com.au) |
